ITANAGAR, Nov 14: A 42-year-old man died on the spot while several others were injured, two of them seriously, Tuesday morning when a night service bus from Tawang to Assam’s Tezpur town rolled over at Rupa Mor, 16 km from Bomdila, the headquarters of West Kameng district.
The accident occurred at around 7.30 am when the bust with 40 passengers on board tried to negotiate a sharp curve and a steep slope, a report from the DIPRO said.
Police cited brake failure as the apparent reason for the accident.
The man who died on the spot was identified as Madan Thapa, a chowkidar in the Public Health Engineering department in Bomdila.
The injured were rushed to the Army Hospital at Rupa but were later referred to the Civil Hospital in Tezpur. Eight passengers who received minor injuries were given medical care at the Army Hospital.
A police team from Rupa led by ASI Tashi Monpa and Army personnel responded to the crisis and evacuated the passengers to safety.
