238 cases settled in Lok Adalats

ITANAGAR, Apr 22: Various legal services authorities from the High Court to the court of the judicial magistrate in the districts successfully conducted Lok Adalats across the State. This was part of the second nationwide exercise.

The Itanagar Bench of Gauhati High Court Legal Services Committee with Justice A Borthakur, senior advocate Muk Pertin, senior Additional Advocate General Kardak Ete, Editor Nani Kojin and High Court Registrar Nani Grayu took up 12 MACT cases and disposed of four involving Rs 9,44,138.

The District Legal Services of Papum Pare, East Siang, West Siang, West Kameng, East Kameng, Lower Subansiri, Upper Subansiri, Upper Siang and Tirap districts through the involvement of district and sessions courts with their presiding judges at Yupia, the additional district and sessions courts with their presiding judges at Basar and Bomdila, the chief judicial magistrates’ courts with their presiding judges at Seppa, Roing, Yupia and Ziro, the first class judicial magistrates’ courts with their presiding judges at Daporijo, Khonsa, Yupia, Yingkiong and Tawang conducted their Lok Adalats within their respective premises wherein the litigants participated in large numbers.

During the Lok Adalats, 1,017 cases consisting of criminal, pre-litigation, civil and other cases were listed for hearing, out of which only 234 cases (inclusive of 69 pre-litigation and 165 pending civil, criminal and other cases) were disposed of involving Rs 60,31,710 as final award or compensation to the litigants.
