Increase revenue, Tax officials told

ITANAGAR, Feb 23: The 6th coordination meeting of the Tax and Excise department was held here on Friday. It was chaired by Tax and Excise Minister Jarkar Gamlin and attended by Tax and Excise Parliamentary Secretary Tapuk Taku.
The meeting, the first after Gamlin became minister, was called to review the performance of the department to take stock of progressive revenue collection under GST and to work out the modalities for more revenue. It also emphasised on plugging revenue leakage and effective implementation of GST in the state.
Gamlin assured to look into grievances raised by the department, but at the same time cautioned the officers and staff to be punctual and sincere in performing the duties.
Taku was happy with the department’s performance but resented the delay in processing matter related to establishment and planning branch. He assured support for infrastructure and manpower requirements.
Chief Commissioner (Tax and Excise) Marnya Ete said that the department, despite earning the highest revenue in the state, has not been
 allotted the required funds for implementing GST effectively.
Commissioner (Tax and Excise) Anirudh Singh advised the officers to maximise their effort to enhance revenue and emphasised on rational and scientific transfer policy of officers to minimise revenue leakage and for effective afunctioning of the department.
