ITANAGAR, Feb 24: The All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) women wing has condemned the recent rape incidents of minors in the state and appealed to the state government to take initiatives to curb such heinous crimes.
Expressing concern over the growing rape incidents in state, AAPSU women wing president Rosy Rangnai while addressing a press conference at the Pres Club here on Saturday said that “though rape incidents cannot be stopped altogether, however, the state government should at least take some preventive measures.”
Rangnai further emphasised on establishing women police stations in every district so that such sensitive matters can be handled appropriately.
Further advocating the introduction of sex education in the state from primary level, Rangnai said that its time we speak to our children about sex and make them informed things like bad and good touch etc.
She further opined that there should be women cell in every department and that every school, both private and government, should also recruit teachers after proper scrutiny.
Pointing out that many rape cases involve persons from other states, the AAPSU women wing president demanded that Inner Line Permit be issued after proper verification and scrutiny.
Rangnai said that the state government should undertake awareness campaign on the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act 2012 every year and that cases under the Act should be disposed of within three months.
Commenting on the incidents, AAPSU vice president (admin) MejeTaku condemned both incidents of raping a 5-year-old girl child at Namgo village under Wakro and its subsequent action of lynching the two accused at Tezu by the public.
Taku also said that there should be a separate child commission in the state which should be headed by a competent person and having no political affiliation.
He also informed that an AAPSU women wing team will be visiting the victims to know the progress of the cases.
