ITANAGAR, Mar 14: Strongly condemning the attack on one Higio Gungtey, a student of Arunachal studying Christ University, Bengaluru, the Arunachal Pradesh Women Welfare Society (APWWS) has appealed the state government and MoS for Home Kiren Rijiju to pursue the matter at the highest level possible so that a strong message could be sent out to the mainland Indians.

Expressing grave concern over the raising act of violence against North-East students, society general secretary Kani Nada Maling in a statement on Tuesday said, “We are also Indians and cannot tolerate such atrocity and discrimination."

APWWS is in constant touch with the victim's mother and we have been extending our moral support to her. APWWS requests for a speedy trial and the case to be dealt in a special court, she added.

It is pertinent to mention here that Higio Gungtey was allegedly assaulted by his landlord Hemanth Kumar who later even made the former lick his shoe.

The incident followed a dispute over water. Even though several charges were filed against the Kumar, it is reported that he has managed to get an anticipatory bail.
