ITANAGAR, Jul 20: The All Tirap District Students’ Union (ATDSU) has denied the allegation of extortion leveled on its president Hapwang Lowang by Tirap MLA Tirong Aboh which led to the arrest of the former.

The Capital Police had on Thursday arrested Lowang, in connection with an extortion case filed by MLA Aboh at the police station here.

Aboh in his FIR had stated that Lowang had been misbehaving and demanding Rs 1.50 lakh and also tried to physically assault him.

Condemning the MLA for his move, the ATDSU on Friday demanded that Aboh should come out in white paper to prove that the union or its president had demanded extortion money or else should tender a public apology for dragging the name of the Union in the wrong light.

Clarifying its stand the ATDSU in a statement issued on Friday said, “The Union leaders had actually met ABoh to discuss education issues, awareness campaign and felicitation of meritorious students of the district; however, in the course of discussion the legislator got furious and assaulted its president.”

MLA Aboh instead called Lowang on the second day and he (Aboh) along with his people physically assaulted Lowang leaving him gravely injured. Lowang was profusely bleeding, the Union said.

The ATDSU further alleged that the legislator has misused his political power and position to arrest the DSU president for reasons best known to him. The Union also opined that its leaders has so far met most of the legislators but the incident of violence and ugly argument at the Khonsa MLA Cottage is unfortunate and uncalled for.
