Dolo losses electoral battle

ITANAGAR, Mar 15: Following the judgment and order dated February 8, 2017 of the Gauhati High Court in Election Petition No 2, 2014 (Atum Welly Vs Kameng Dolo) declaring the election of 12 Pakke-Kessang (ST) Assembly Constituency MLA Kameng Dolo as void under section 100 (1) (d) (iv) of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, the State Legislative Assembly secretary has on Tuesday issued a fresh notice notifying that the seat of the said constituency has fallen vacant.

The notification added that Dolo is ceased to be a member of the Sixth Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly.

Commenting on the same, former minister Atum Welly informed that he has already approached the Election Commission of India, Guwahati High Court and even to the state Election Commission to declare the said constituency as vacant and announce the re-election date as per prescribed norms.

“Dolo had tried to get a stay order from the Supreme Court but failed and accordingly I appealed the state election commission and other authority concerned to do the needful within the stipulated time frame. As per norms, the commission has to declare the election dates within one month,” said Welly.

Earlier, the Gauhati High Court on February 8 last had rejected an interim stay on the judgment, hence, declaring the election process of 12th Pakke Kesang Assembly Constituency held on 2014 as void.

It is pertinent to mention here that Welly had filed a petition claiming that he had not withdrawn his candidature from the 2014 elections and that his signature was forged.

Dolo could not be contacted for his comment on the current development.
