ITANAGAR, Sept 22: Sanjay Jaju, Director (Finance/Administration) of National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) on Friday called on Chief Minister Pema Khandu.
During the meeting, also attended by Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein, issues pertaining to construction of highways by the corporation in Arunachal Pradesh were taken up, a report from the CMO said.
Jaju said issues related to land for compensatory afforestation are slowing the work down. Khandu assured cooperation for expediting the process.
The director said NHIDCL is investing Rs 15,000-crore in the state for about 800 km of roads, which is half of the company’s investment countrywide.
Mein urged NHIDCL to immediately take up maintenance of Likabali-Basar-Bame Road, which is in a bad shape. He also urged the company for flood and landslide mitigation measures to be adopted for the roads using latest technology.
Jaju said incorporating flood mitigation measures has been made mandatory for contractors in their DPR. He added post-construction maintenance is also being taken up.
He further said work on four-laning of Nagaon-Hollongi highway, part of the ongoing four-laning of Guwahati-Itanagar highway, is expected to be complete within one and a half year. He also said that Nagaon-Tinsukia four-lane highway work is being taken up by the company to connect the eastern parts of Arunachal.
The chief minister hoped that the completion of highway work taken up by NHIDCL will be a game-changer in the region. He said local participation in the road building exercise can be assured through contractual works and employment, the report said.
