ITANAGAR, Apr 22: A landslide triggered by digging work for a retaining wall at Hinda-1 Village in Palin under Kra-Daadi district of Arunachal Pradesh left three people dead.
The three labourers, from Pandhuwa in Assam’s Lakhimpur district, were buried alive. They were identified as Nur Hug (35), Saiful Islam (40) and Alias Ali (35).
CRPF and police personnel and locals reached the spot as soon as the incident took place about 9:30am, but none of the three could be saved, Sangram OC Kari Pertin said.
Pertin said incessant rainfall in the district for the past few days could have caused the landslide.
The bodies were handed over to members of the labourers’ families after post mortem and a case SGM/PS/UD/Case No 01/17 U/S 174 CRPC was registered in the Sangram police station.
Chief minister Pema Khandu expressed shock and sorrow over the loss of the three lives. He announced ex-gratia relief to the next of kith of the deceased as per the admissible norms and directed the Kra-Daadi deputy commissioner to do the needful.
While appealing the people to be cautious during the rainy season, Khandu said every measure has to be taken in natural disaster-prone Arunachal Pradesh to avert casualties and loss of livestock and properties.
