ITANAGAR, May 30: Nagaland’s Opang Jamir, the first male from the Northeast to represent India at an international pageant and an inspiration to many youths, announced the hunt for the next Mr Arunachal and Miss NEFA Arunachal at the press club here on Wednesday.

“The search for the next Mr Arunachal and Miss NEFA Arunachal will start in a couple of months, with zonal auditions in various districts of the State. The final will be held in October this year,” he said.

“This year it’s going to get bigger in terms of scale and outreach so that the organisation can reach beyond the State and country among the youths. Last two editions were successful events in collaboration with Miss India organisation,” he added.

Jamir said the organisers are positive and look forward to support in terms of talent management and scouting for this year too.

To prepare the contestants, a 10-day grooming class will be conducted like every year. Jamir, who was Mr International India-2012, Mr Earth India-2011 and Lakme Fashion Week model, will be involved in the grooming of Mr Arunachal contestants.

Founding chairman and organiser of the event Taniya Budh said the youth of the State, at a remote corner of the country, get very few opportunities to showcase their talent. “This (contest) will be a step towards bridging the gap between opportunities,” he said.

This year will also see fitness experts joining as trainees for all the participants. Big names from the fashion world will be involved to boost the morale of the contestants, Budh said.

“The Times Group of Femina Miss India and Mr India National talent coordinator Bennet Nathan will grace the grand finale as judge along with other renowned faces,” he added.

The event is being organised with the motto ‘Think globally, act locally’.
