Rebia calls for preserving ethnic tolerance among students

RONO HILLS, Mar 11: With an aim to promote and showcase rich traditions and cultures of various tribes of the state, the much anticipated Arunachal Panorama festival kicked off at the Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU) here on Saturday.

Gracing the occasion as chief guest, Urban Development minister Nabam Rebia exhorted RGU’s role in preserving ethnic tolerance among young students and assured that all fundamental needs of the institution will be taken into consideration with priority.

RGU vice chancellor professor Tamo Mibang in his message reflected on the importance of such events which was initiated to cater the need for cultural awareness among the younger generation.

A memorandum citing the need of better road connectivity, street lights, and student’s activity centre in the campus was also presented to the chief guest by Rajiv Gandhi University Students Union (RGUSU) president Tania Tagia on the occasion.

Earlier, the event started off with the lighting of amber by the chief guest while the music of Wancho drum beats resounded in the venue. A mega dance was performed showcasing a panoramic view of vivid colours and forms of Arunachal Pradesh.

The next two days of festival will continue showcasing glimpse of rich rituals and traditions throughout the event. Old social conventions such as rituals, story recitation, folk dance, traditional games and sports will be exhibited and performed by the participants.

Traditional food Stalls will also be displayed with numerous cuisine and delicacies hailing from every part of the state.
