Reuse, recycle credo at Earth Day event

DOIMUKH, Apr 22: A daylong workshop on the theme ‘Save Earth, Save Life’ was organised by the NSS Unit of Government College, Doimukh to observe Earth Day on Sunday.

The college’s principal, Dr MQ Khan outlined the objectives of the workshop. He lamented how earth is gradually being ruined by selfish human beings and said there is an immediate need to save the world to save the future generation as many rare species have already vanished.

He also gave emphasis on the need to reduce, reuse and recycle.

Education Secretary, Dr. Madhu Rani Teotia dwelt on the importance of preserving the environment and lead by example to educate the younger generation. She exhorted the college fraternity on the occasion and declared the Doimukh college a polythene-free zone.

UD and Housing, Town Planning, ULB, Law and Justice and Land Management Minister Nabam Rebia assured to donate dustbins for the college. Responding to the request of the principal for strengthening the infrastructure facilities, he directed the Education secretary to provide funds for a bus, a multi-purpose hall and other urgent needs of the college.

The workshop concluded with distribution of certificates by Rebia, Dr. Teotia and Doimukh ZPM Tana Yayo. A mass plantation programme was observed to celebrate the occasion. Students, faculties, non-teaching staff and local representatives attended the workshop and plantation programme.
