NAHARLAGUN, Mar 03: Along with the rest of globe, the Arunachal Pradesh State Health Services (APSHS), National Program for Prevention and Control of Deafness (NPPCD), Department of Health and Family Welfare along with the Department of Social Justice, Empowerment and Tribal Affairs jointly on Friday observed World Hearing Day at the Tomo Riba State Hospital here.
Speaking on the occasion, ENT surgeon Dr Jego Ori emphasised that about 60 percent of hearing loss during childhood is treatable and called for more awareness of the same.
NPPCD SNO Dr P Ringu in his deliberation informed that the main objective of observing World Hearing Day is to enhance public awareness about preventive various ear problems and controlling of curable deafness amongst all sections of public, particularly elderly population and persons residing in slum clusters and rural areas.
A free endoscopic ear screening camp was also organised at the hospital to mark the occasion by a team of doctors led by senior ENT surgeon Dr T Taki and supported by ENT Surgeons Dr Ori and Dr K Riba.
In all 133 patients were screened and hearing aids were distributed through the department of SJETA. In addition, IEC activities were also conducted along with distribution of IEC materials.
CMS Dr R D Khrimey and MS Dr D Raina also graced the occasion.
