Indeed a major milestone achieved by the state of Arunachal
Pradesh with Tawang district being adjudged as one of the
cleanest district in the entire North-East by Swachh Survekshan Gramin (SSG)-2018.
The state has undoubtedly taken  clean Arunachal in mission mode with series of cleanliness events across the state since its launch. The SSG-2018 was carried across the country  in around 6,800 villages of 698 districts. An independent agency under Ministry of Drinking Water & Sanitation, Government of India has conducted a survey from 1 to 31 August, 2018 to list out districts performing as a result of the Swachh Bharat Mission. The survey of rural cleanliness programme was launched in July 13 last in order to rank all districts and states on the basis of qualitative and quantitative evaluation.
Sanitation in public places, citizen feedback, and service level progress on sanitation as per Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin), were the parameters for the selection of clean districts in the country. Tawang being one of the tourist hot spot in the state is naturally blessed. The scenic beauty and rich culture are enough to lure any tourists looking for a getaway to the East. Cleanliness is one among the many factors to draw tourists to the place. Tawang has done the state proud with its achievement.
The cleanest district in the North East tag is a booster for the state. The state has also achieved the status of Open Defecation Free  well in advance of the deadline of December 31, 2018. It is appreciable of the state government hat had allocated approximately Rs 30 crore for carrying forward the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan (SBA) activities in the state.
However, the significant role of the concerted efforts put by all the stakeholders cannot be ruled out. It is the coordinated efforts that have helped state achieve the targets and take position in the list of districts to be the cleanest in the country.
