Los Angeles, Sep 15: Hours after the pop star and actress revealed she underwent a kidney transplantearlier this summer due to complications from the autoimmune disease lupus, she was spotted back at work on the New York City set of her upcoming Woody Allen movie.
Details have yet to emerge about the plot of the untitled film (though it’s rumored to involve a coming-of-age love story) nor about Gomez’s character, and her casual outfit of T-shirt and jeans didn’t offer many clues. What is known is that Gomez, 25, will share the screen with a cast that includes Jude Law, Diego Luna, Liev Schreiber, Timothée Chalamet, and Elle Fanning; Amazon Studios will distribute the movie.
Gomez whose other big-screen credits include Spring Breakers, Neighbors 2, and the Hotel Transylvania movies disclosed her recent kidney surgery in a heartfelt Instagram post Thursday.
“I’m very aware some of my fans had noticed I was laying low for part of the summer and questioning why I wasn’t promoting my new music, which I was extremely proud of,” she wrote. “So I found out I needed to get a kidney transplant due to my Lupus and was recovering. It was what I needed to do for my overall health. I honestly look forward to sharing with you, soon my journey through these past several months as I have always wanted to do with you.”
She also revealed that the donor was her close friend Francia Raisa, an actress known for her roles on Dear White People and The Secret Life of the American Teenager. ”There aren’t words to describe how I can possibly thank my beautiful friend Francia Raisa,” Gomez wrote. “She gave me the ultimate gift and sacrifice by donating her kidney to me. I am incredibly blessed. I love you so much, sis.”
Gomez’s Instagram post was met with an outpouring of support from fans. PTI
