NEW DELHI, Jan 17: China is building a 60,000 megawatt dam on the Yarlung Tsangpo River, according to sources from the Ministry of Power. The under-construction dam is on the Medog border which is in close proximity to Arunachal Pradesh.

India is concerned about the construction of this dam in China. According to the sources, China can divert the water of the Brahmaputra River after the construction of the dam.

Not only this, but by stopping the water from this dam, it can create a flood-like situation. Sources added that China's dam may cause water shortage or flood-like situation in Arunachal Pradesh and Assam

Not just India, but the construction of the dam might also affect Bangladesh, added the source from the Ministry of Power.

The source further said that India is geared up for any situation.

“India is also preparing many dams in Arunachal Pradesh with storage capacity,” said the source. (Source: India Today)
