New Delhi, Aug 04: Veteran actor Dilip Kumar is being treated for kidney-related ailments, reports news agency PTI.
The screen legend was admitted to Mumbai’s Lilavati Hospital on Wednesday for dehydration, fever. “His kidneys are not functioning properly. We will see what to do next. A team of doctors is treating him. They will decide what to do next. But otherwise he is normal. He is off the ventilator. He is not on dialysis and is under observation because of the age factor,” an official from the hospital told PTI. Earlier, it was reported that Dilip Kumar, 94, was suffering from renal ailment. However, the doctors said that it is too early to give out a statement.
Dilip Kumar’s wife Saira Banu yesterday said that the actor is fine but will stay in hospital. “He is doing much better than yesterday. But he will be in hospital today. The doctors here are taking good care of him. We all should pray he recovers soon,” she said. Dilip Kumar and Saira Banu have been married since 1966.
In the last few years, due to medical issues, Dilip Kumar has been admitted to the hospital several times. In 2016, he was hospitalised twice. He even celebrated his 94th birthday on December 11 last year in hospital.
Dilip Kumar debuted in the industry in 1944 with Jwar Bhata. He is the star of films such as Aan, Madhumati, Devdas, Mughal-e-Azam, Naya Daur, Ganga Jamuna and Karma. His last release was 1998’s Qilla. Dilip Kumar was honoured with the Padma Vibhushan in 2015. PTI
