2 drug peddlers arrested with cannabis

NAHARLAGUN, Dec 10: Two suspected drug peddlers were arrested in separate operations in Naharlagun on charges of trafficking cannabis worth over Rs 2 lakh, police said on Tuesday.

The first arrest occurred on Monday when Rage Kena (35) was detained in the Papunallah area. Following a tip-off, police seized 6.5 kg of cannabis from his possession.

A case has been registered against Kena under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, Naharlagun superintendent of police Mihin Gambo said.

In a separate operation on Sunday, an inter-state drug peddler, Md Babul Islam (24), was arrested following a raid at his rented house in Lower Model village, Naharlagun. Islam, a native of Lakhimpur, Assam, is accused of supplying cannabis to youth in Itanagar. Police recovered 3.5 kg of cannabis from his residence.

The raid was carried out by a team led by Naharlagun Police Station officer-in-charge Inspector Krishnendu Dev, along with sub-inspector Vivek Linggi and other personnel, under the supervision of SP Gambo and SDPO Rishi Longdo. The contraband was sealed and secured according to NDPS procedures in the presence of Naharlagun EAC Khoda Bath. A case has been filed under the relevant sections of the NDPS Act, and Islam remains in police custody for further investigation.

SP Gambo reiterated the Naharlagun police's commitment to combating drug trafficking and safeguarding the youth of the Itanagar Capital Region (ICR).
