Dalai Lama's Nobel award celebrated

ITANAGAR, Dec 10: The 35th Anniversary of the Nobel Peace Prize award to the 14th Dalai Lama was celebrated at Thupten Gatsa Ling Gompa here on Tuesday.

The event was organized by the Gaden Namgyal Lhatse Welfare & Charitable Society, Tawang Monastery and the Itanagar Buddhist Culture Society (IBCS).

Addressing the occasion, Tibet Support Group of Arunachal Pradesh (TSGAP) president Tarh Tarak congratulated the organizing committee for the grand celebration and paid solemn homage to the 14th Dalai Lama for his kindness, faith, and contributions, and offered greetings of auspiciousness and well-being.

Tarak, also the vice-president of the State BJP, further briefed the gathering on the activities of TSGAP and reaffirmed the group's support for the Tibetan freedom struggle. He emphasized the historical relationship between Tibet and Arunachal Pradesh, tracing the migration of Abotani people from Tibet over 500 to 1000 years ago.

He highlighted the Dalai Lama's role as a man of peace and his Nobel Peace Prize award in 1989 for his non-violent efforts toward Tibet’s liberation.

Tarak urged the Government of India to confer the “Bharat Ratna” on the Dalai Lama in recognition of his contributions to peace and humanity.

Ven Lobsang Tengyal spoke about the Dalai Lama’s biography, highlighting his dedication to promoting the Tibetan culture and his lifelong commitment to peace. Tengyal also stressed the Dalai Lama's efforts to find a peaceful resolution to Tibet's issues without resorting to violence and called for the “Bharat Ratna” to be awarded to him.

IBCS president Dr L Wangchuk, DOKAA assistant director Deden Norbu and others also addressed the audience.
