TAWANG, Sep 16: A three-day disaster response training aimed at building community resilience commenced in Tawang on Monday.
The programme, which seeks to enhance the capacity of local volunteers for creating a disaster-resilient society, was inaugurated by Tawang ADC Sang Khandu.
The training, organized by the Tawang District Disaster Management Authority, focuses on basic disaster response skills.
In his address, Khandu underscored the crucial role of timely intervention by trained volunteers in saving lives during crises. He encouraged participants to take the training seriously and to disseminate the acquired knowledge within their villages.
Khandu also commended the disaster management department for their efforts in providing this essential training.
Earlier, Tawang district disaster management officer (DDMO) Genden Tsomu revealed that a similar training session was conducted in Jang starting September 13 for volunteers from the Mogto constituency.
She announced that training for volunteers from the Lungla constituency is scheduled to begin on September 21.
Tsomu highlighted that the district training sessions were led by five trainers who had previously received their training from the National Disaster Response Force in Itanagar. She praised the trainers for their exemplary work and expressed gratitude to the volunteers and panchayat leaders for their commitment and enthusiasm.
The current training session includes 35 community volunteers from various gram panchayats within the Tawang constituency. The programme features technical sessions with PowerPoint presentations and practical training in CPR using dummies.
