East Kameng tops medal tally, Papum Pare second

ITANAGAR, Apr 22: East Kameng district emerged as the overall champion at the 4th Arunachal State Games, bagging the highest number of medals among all participating districts.

According to the final tally, East Kameng secured 28 gold, 20 silver, and 30 bronze medals, taking their total to 78. Papum Pare finished second with 73 medals, including 20 golds, while Kurung Kumey stood third with 66 medals, 18 of which were gold.

Other notable performers included Kra Daadi with 50 medals, Upper Subansiri with 44, and Changlang with 34. Keyi Panyor, one of the newly formed districts, recorded a promising debut with 26 medals.

A total of 675 medals were awarded during the five-day sporting event—195 gold, 200 silver, and 280 bronze—reflecting the growing enthusiasm for sports across the state.

Over 4,300 participants, including athletes, coaches, and trainers, took part in the Games, held at multiple venues across Itanagar and Naharlagun. The competitions were conducted in 22 disciplines, including archery, athletics, boxing, football, judo, taekwondo, and wushu.

The Games were organised by the Arunachal Olympic Association in collaboration with the Department of Sports and Youth Affairs. Officials said the event was aimed at fostering grassroots sports culture and creating a pipeline of talent for national and international competitions.

Chief Minister Pema Khandu, who inaugurated the Games at the Golden Jubilee Stadium in Yupia, announced that the Arunachal State Games would be made an annual event. He reaffirmed the state government's commitment to identifying and nurturing young sporting talent from across the districts.
