ITANAGAR, Dec 10: The Department of Fisheries, Government of India, in collaboration with the National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB) and the Fisheries Department of Arunachal Pradesh, organized an outreach-cum-awareness programme on fisheries schemes here on Tuesday.
The event, saw the participation of 40 fish farmers, members of Fish Farmer Producer Organizations (FFPO), and Cooperative Societies from Papum Pare and Lower Subansiri districts, along with officials from the directorate of fisheries and the two districts. Farmers and officials from other districts joined the session virtually.
The programme aimed to disseminate information on key schemes such as the Pradhan Mantri Matsya-Kisan Samridhi Sah Yojana (PM-MKSSY), Fisheries Infrastructure Development Fund (FIDF), entrepreneurial models in fisheries and aquaculture, Group Accident Insurance Schemes (GAIS), and aquaculture insurance under PM-MKSSY. It also covered topics like trout culture in cold water fisheries, Kisan Credit Card (KCC) procedures, and the importance of the National Fisheries Digital Portal (NFDP).
Experts from the NFDB, the Institute of Fisheries, and the Directorate of Cold-Water Fisheries Research (DCFR), Bhimtal, shared insights with participants.
State fisheries secretary, Hage Tari, who also attended the event, urged participants to make the most of the session by clearing doubts and acquiring knowledge from experts. He emphasized the significance of onboarding fish farmers and stakeholders onto the NFDP portal, which seeks to formalize the fisheries sector and unlock its potential to boost rural livelihoods and contribute to the country’s GDP.
