ITANAGAR, Sep 16: Arunachal Pradesh Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board (APB&OCWWB) chairman Rolen Dagam on Monday inaugurated a labour shed at Mebo in East Siang district.
Speaking to reporters, Dagam said the labour shed is part of a state-wide initiative aimed at the welfare of the labour community, particularly migrant workers who travel to other districts for daily wage work.
The shed, built at an estimated cost of ₹50 lakh, is designed to provide shelter and basic facilities to workers.
Dagam emphasized that efforts will be made to ensure that labour sheds constructed in remote areas of the district are fully utilized, as many are currently underused or in poor condition due to their location.
“I urge all those involved in the construction of these sheds to complete them within the stipulated time frame and ensure they are accessible to the entire community,” he said.
Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS) state president Mipet Tayeng, who was also present at the event, informed that the newly inaugurated shed consists of four rooms capable of accommodating four families.
She noted that migrant workers, often burdened by high rent, would greatly benefit from this facility, especially in East Siang where many labourers lack adequate housing.
Tayeng also raised concerns about the irregular disbursement of labour cess, which is intended to support the welfare of construction workers.
"The labour cess is a rightful benefit that must be provided to the workers, and I appeal to the state government to address this issue," she said.
The event was attended by Mebo ADC Sibo Passing, along with members of the labour board and the BMS district unit.
