Training on HDMP underway at TRIHMS

NAHARLAGUN, Sep 19: A three-day training on the preparation of Hospital Disaster Management Plans (HDMP) was inaugurated by MLA and advisor to the disaster management minister Nakap Nalo at the Tomo Riba Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (TRIHMS) here on Thursday.

The event was attended by key officials, including disaster management director Komkar and TRIHMS chief medical superintendent Dr S Raina.

Organized by the department of disaster management in collaboration with the department of health services and the Geohazard Society from New Delhi, the training aims to equip medical officers from TRIHMS, zonal hospitals, major district hospitals, and private hospitals in the Itanagar Capital Region (ICR) with essential skills for disaster response.

A total of 47 medical officers are participating in the programme.

In his address, Nalo highlighted the rising incidents of manmade disasters, particularly in the ICR and stressed the importance of preparedness and planning to save lives.

He urged that similar training sessions be conducted regularly and proposed that all deputy commissioners be instructed to organize such programmes for medical officers, police personnel, and other relevant departments.

Director Dulom in his address underscored the significance of the training amid increasing climate change impacts.

He called for the development of specific Hospital Disaster Management Plans and encouraged participants to conduct regular mock drills to familiarize themselves with their roles during emergencies.

Geohazard Society director Dr Hari Kumar reiterated the necessity of management plans considering rising cases of disasters across the country.

He emphasized the importance of clearly defined roles during emergencies and recommended regular mock drills to validate the plans.

In his vote of thanks, state surveillance officer Dr L Jampa advocated for more collaborative training sessions between the disaster management department and the health services department in the future.
