ITANAGAR, Sep 30: The Directorate of Public Libraries on Monday bid a warm farewell to three long-serving staff members— Public Libraries director Gaga Taggu Jini, library attendant Suresh Prasad Thakur and driver Suraj Deo Rai—who retired upon reaching the age of superannuation.
The farewell ceremony, held at the State Central Library, featured speeches from colleagues and staff, reflecting on the retirees' decades of dedicated service. Among those present were Cultural Affairs secretary Tai Kaye and the upcoming director of public libraries Y R Ete.
Jini began her government career as a district librarian on October 6, 1987, serving in various locations, including Ziro, Itanagar, Tezu, Tawang, and Aalo.
She was promoted to assistant director and deputy director in 2008 and 2018, respectively. Jini took charge as the director of public libraries on June 27 this year and retired after a commendable total service of 36 years, 11 months, and 24 days.
Thakur joined the service on April 1, 1987, while Rai began his tenure on March 13, 1987.
