ZIRO, Sep 16: A meeting to discuss the implementation of the “Swachhata Hi Sewa” campaign was held at the district secretariat here on Monday under the chairmanship of local MLA Hage Appa.

MLA Appa commended the district administration, Urban Development (UD) and Public Health Engineering Department (PHED), and all Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) for their dedicated involvement in the campaign.

He emphasized that with the inclusion of schools, the proposed human chain from Hapoli to Old Ziro could serve as a symbol of commitment to a cleaner Ziro.

Appa urged the agriculture and horticulture departments to launch extensive awareness campaigns promoting organic farming. He highlighted that as public awareness of healthy lifestyles increases, organic farming could significantly enhance the health of Ziro’s residents and attract more tourists to the valley.

He stressed the importance of showcasing the benefits of organic farming to foster healthy food habits.

Deputy Commissioner Vivek H P outlined the objectives of the meeting, noting that “Swachhata Hi Sewa” is more than a fortnightly campaign ending on October 2, 2024.

It aims to instill lasting lifestyle and habit changes among residents to maintain cleanliness. He emphasized that schools should integrate cleanliness practices into their regular curriculum.

The DC also announced the identification of four Cleanliness Target Units (CTUs) in urban areas and one in a rural area, which will be transformed into selfie points and viewpoints post-cleanup.

This initiative aims to raise awareness about waste disposal and demonstrate the potential of converting unsightly areas into attractive and functional spaces. Additionally, a human chain involving CBOs and schools will be organized as part of the campaign to showcase the district's commitment to cleanliness.

In response to the DC's call, Taru Abin, president of the Private Schools Association, stated that schools have developed a curriculum incorporating monthly cleanliness and awareness activities.

District horticulture officer Hibu Dante and district agriculture officer Tasso Butung presented their commitment to achieving organic farming district status for Lower Subansiri.

The meeting saw active participation from all ZPMs and various CBOs, who pledged their support to the district administration in fulfilling the goals of the “Swachhata Hi Sewa” campaign. (DIPRO)
