PASIGHAT, Apr 22: After a gruelling four-hour rescue operation, two persons namely Md Alauddin Ali (58) and Khem Bahadur Chetry (26) were successfully brought out safely from a 50-meter deep well in Gumin Nagar area, near ESSAR Petrol Pump here on Monday.

The victims are reportedly in critical condition and have been hospitalized at the Bakin Pertin General Hospital for necessary medical treatment.

DDMO Tsangpa Tashi explained that the rescue team faced challenges due to the narrow well and the victims being unconscious from poisonous gas exposure while cleaning it.

Tsangpa said, upon receiving a call from Pasighat police station officer-in-charge, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) initiated the rescue operation. However, due to the well's narrow opening, they couldn't enter with oxygen cylinders.

Fortunately, AAPDA Mitra volunteer George Pazing arrived and descended into the well with the guidance of SDRF personnel and police.

After a tense rescue operation, Pazing successfully brought both victims to safety.

AAPDA Mitra are trained volunteers in disaster response.

Tsangpa highlighted that the operation was a successful joint effort by SDRF and police.

East Siang deputy commissioner, Tayi Taggu, praised the courage of Pazing and announced that he would be suitably rewarded in the future.

Taggu also lauded the entire rescue team, including police and SDRF members, for their efforts in saving the two lives.
