CM, Guv condoles Arunachal Lokayukta Chairperson death

ITANAGAR, Apr 28: The Arunachal Pradesh Lokayukta Chairperson Justice (Retd) Prasanta Kumar Saikia died on Saturday in New Delhi, where he was undergoing treatment, sources said.

He was 70.

Born on January 26, 1954, Saikia joined the Assam Judicial Service on September 5, 1980 and held various posts in Judicial Service including Special Judge, CBI, Guwahati and Registrar General, Gauhati High Court.

He was elevated as Additional Judge of the Gauhati HC on October 17, 2011 and retired on January 25 2016. He also served as a Member (Judicial), the National Company Law Tribunal, Guwahati Bench.

He was sworn in as the first Chairperson of Arunachal Pradesh Lokayukta on June 27, 2019.

Chief Minister Pema Khandu took to the micro-blogging site X to mourn the demise of the State Lokayukta Chairperson.

“Deeply saddened” by the passing away of the Lokayukta Chairperson, the Chief Minister said, “A versatile personality, Justice Retired PK Saikia Ji's contributions to the service of society shall always be fondly remembered.”

“In this hour of grief, my condolences to his family and loved ones. May Lord Buddha give peace to his soul and strength to his near and dear ones to cope with the loss,” Khandu wrote in the post.

Meanwhile, the Governor, Lt. General (Retd) KT Parnaik, has expressed his condolences on the sudden demise of the State Lokayukta Chairman, Justice (Retd.) P.K. Saikia.

Saikia was also the former Judge of Gauhati High Court.

He said that in the sudden passing away of Justice Saikia, the State of Arunachal Pradesh lost a conscientious ombudsman and a crusader against corruption.

The Governor, on behalf of the people of Arunachal Pradesh conveyed sincere and heartfelt condolence and prayed to Almighty God for eternal peace of the departed soul.
