Call for inquiry into ‘poll malpractices’

TAP | Updated: April 30, 2024

ITANAGAR, Apr 30: Gana Suraksha Party (GSP) Kurung Kumey district unit president, Gida Rima Bengia, has formally requested an investigation into alleged electoral malpractices during the recent elections in the Nyapin assembly constituency.

In a letter addressed to the chief electoral officer, Bengia alleged that the election held on April 19 was compromised by the capture and manipulation of polling stations by agents from certain political parties. This misconduct, according to Bengia, severely undermines the principles of democracy and the citizens' right to a free and fair electoral process.

An affidavit from Tadar Lukap, block president of GSP in Nyapin circle, was submitted as part of the complaint, detailing specific incidents of the alleged malpractice. This document supports claims of widespread irregularities during the voting process within the Arunachal West Lok Sabha Constituency.

Bengia urged the chief electoral officer to initiate a comprehensive inquiry to ensure accountability and justice. The appeal highlights the necessity for maintaining the integrity of the electoral process and ensuring such violations are not repeated in future elections.
