Former SIC conferred honorary doctorate

ITANAGAR, Apr 29: Former State Information Commissioner (SIC) and Dream for United Arunachal (DUआ) chairman, Gumjum Haider, has been conferred with an honorary ‘Doctorate’ by the World Human Rights Protection Commission (WHRPC)

Haider, also the former secretary general of North East Students' Organisation (NESO), was honoured for his exceptional contributions in the field of social work.

The award ceremony, held at the Hyatt Centric, New Delhi, was organized by WHRPC with the support of the "World Peace of United Nations University" and "Bharat Gaurav Sammaan," under the auspices of the Ministry of Corporate Affairs and Skill Development, Govt of India.

The WHRPC, an autonomous organization recognized by the Federal Government of the United States of America and approved by the states of New York and Colorado, is one of the few human rights institutes in the world whose chairperson is a former Chief Justice of the country.

The WHRPC in India was established with an act of Parliament under the Protection of Human Rights Act of 1882, emphasizing the protection of human rights.

Chief Minister Pema Khandu and deputy chief minister Chowna Mein have congratulated Haider for the achievement.

“Congratulations to former State Information Commissioner and Chairman, Dream for United Arunachal, Shri @gumjumhaider, on being conferred with an honorary 'Doctorate' by the World Human Rights Protection Commission (WHRPC). Your dedication to human rights advocacy is truly inspiring. The State is proud of your achievements!” Khandu tweeted.

Mein also took to social media to extend his wishes.

“Congratulations to the Chairman of Dream for United Arunachal, Shri Gumjum Haider Ji, for being conferred with a Doctorate by the World Human Rights Protection Commission (WHRPC) for his exceptional contributions in the field of social work. His exemplifying efforts impacting positivity in the society is laudable. Sending my best wishes for his future endeavors,” the deputy CM said.
