Guv urges Red Cross volunteers to strengthen humanitarian efforts

NAHARLAGUN, May 08: Governor K T Parnaik on Wednesday urged the volunteers of the Indian Red Cross Society, Arunachal Pradesh State Branch (IRCSAPSB) to champion the cause of the Red Cross and ensure their endeavors are purposeful and impactful.

Speaking at the World Red Cross Day celebration at Tomo Riba Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (TRIHMS) here, the governor proposed the organization of seminars and interactive sessions involving educational institutions to educate the public on effective ways to manage challenges during natural disasters, epidemics, and accidents.

He encouraged Red Cross volunteers to assist the destitute, orphans, neglected communities, as well as those affected by TB, HIV, and drug abuse, envisioning Arunachal Pradesh as a caring state that prioritizes the well-being of all its citizens.

Governor Parnaik, who serves as the president of IRCSAPSB, called upon the youth and the broader community to embrace volunteerism through the Indian Red Cross. He urged educational institutions, tribal organizations, and corporations to engage with Red Cross initiatives.

Highlighting the exemplary work of volunteer organizations such as NGOs in Tirap and Changlang Districts, which focus on rehabilitating drug addicts, and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, the governor emphasized the need for IRCSAPSB to serve as a vital link between affected individuals and the government during relief operations.

Parnaik commended the IRCSAPSB for organizing a volunteer blood donation camp in honor of World Red Cross Day, expressing gratitude to the blood donors, medical officers, nursing staff, and paramedics for their participation and support.

During the event, the governor inaugurated the ceremony by lighting the lamp and paying tribute to Jean Henry Dunant, the founder of the Red Cross Movement, and all Red Cross volunteers who have sacrificed their lives for humanitarian causes.

IRCSAPSB secretary Dr Emi Rumi provided a brief report on the state branch's activities in recent years, highlighting its response to the COVID-19 pandemic, fire accidents, and natural disasters.

Meanwhile, in recognition of their contributions to the World Red Cross Day celebration and the voluntary blood donation camp, the governor presented certificates of appreciation to the principal of Police Training Center, Banderdewa, Yupia ITBP commandant, vice-chancellors of Global University and Arunodaya University and chairpersons of Oju Welfare Association and Arunachal Shining Mom & Dad.

The celebration witnessed a significant turnout of volunteers from the state police, ITBP, NSS volunteers and educational institutions who donated blood.

Also present at the event were TRIHMS director Dr Moji Jini, Family Welfare director Dr Wangdi Lama, National Health Mission director M Sora and TRIHMS chief medical superintendent Dr D Raina.
