Late Tadu, who was also an esteemed priest, was 92 years old and is survived by four wives, three sons, six daughters and seven grandsons.

Members of the village and gaon buras of Sangram circle under Kurung Kumey district have expressed grief and sorrow over Tadu’s demise and have offered their condolences to the bereaved family.

Gaon Bura Hillang Palang, in his condolence message, remembered late Tadu as a mentor and expert in customary law with unbiased judgment in local dispute settlement, and a highly respected figure among the GBs in the society.

“He was a vital source of knowledge on customary law, tradition and rituals, and his passing leaves a void in the preservation of indigenous intellectual knowledge,” he added.

“The entire society and gaon buras pray for eternal peace of his departed soul and may give strength to the bereaved family,” the gaon buras said in the message.
