PALIN, Apr 26: The 3rd Joint Gumkum Gumpa Festival of the Puriok Community was celebrated with great fervour here in Kra Daadi district from April 22 to 26.

The valedictory event of the festival was attended by Kra Daadi deputy commissioner Sunny K Singh and Chambang circle officer Riba Gyadi, who graced the occasion as the chief guest and guest of honor, respectively.

Addressing the gathered public, Singh expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to serve in culturally rich Arunachal Pradesh, home to diverse tribal communities known for their unity and mutual respect.

He urged the Puriok brethren to preserve and promote their traditional practices through documentation, ensuring that future generations could learn from their heritage.

Festival organizing committee chairman Siji Punung highlighted the festival's significance as a non-ritual celebration aimed at reuniting the scattered bonded laborers of the Puriok Community across Arunachal.

He shared that the festival saw participants from Kurung Kumey, East Kameng, and Kra Daadi districts in attendance.

During the event, Punung presented a three-point memorandum to the chief guest, focusing on the allocation of festival grounds, the provision of local festival funds, and job reservations for the community.

Cultural programmes and games and sports were the main attractions of the celebration, adding to the festive atmosphere of the festival.
