Fish-cathing fest: Top angler to win Rs. 50K *Eco-Tourism event in West Siang attracts 65 NE enthusiasts*

ITANAGAR, Oct 25: Around 65 anglers from Sikkim, Meghalaya and hosts Arunachal on Thursday took part in an angling competition which is being organized at the Sibu-Siyik confluence under Darak circle in West Siang district as a part of the ‘Eco-Tourism-cum-Angling Festival’.

The festival, which was inaugurated by Liromoba legislator Nyamar Karbak on Wednesday, aims to conserve aquatic life and promote tourism in the unexplored parts of West Siang and is also push towards generating rural employment.

Supervised by Arunachal Anglers’ Forum led by its president Bengia Tayu, the angling competition on Thursday saw the anglers catch rich varieties of fishes, with the largest being that of 5kgs and later release those as per the catch and release practice.

The winners of the competition would, however, be announced in the last day of the festival. The angling competition carries cash awards of Rs 50, 000, Rs 30,000 and 10,000 for the top three catches respectively.

It was informed that among others, West Siang deputy commissioner in-charge, C Chukhu, PWD chief engineer T Ronya, district tourism officer T K Kopak also took part in the angling competition.

Organized jointly by the Lodu Ao Welfare Society and Young Mission Adventure Club, the three-day long Eco-Tourism-cum-Angling Festival besides providing camping, hiking, trekking, rock climbing, bird watching opportunities to the visitors has also opened up sight-seeing to Benji Liine, Penru (bat cave) and Tak Soi (pigeon home) located in the Darak circle.

Cultural shows and exhibition of local cuisines are also a part of the carnival.
