ITANAGAR, Mar 26: The Arunachal Civil Society (ACS) has expressed its appreciation to the state government for issuing a notification directing private B. Ed colleges and universities within the state to adhere to a uniform annual rate for pursuing the educational course.

The Department of Education, through a notification, has specified a mandatory fixed rate not exceeding Rs. 90,000 annually for admission for the session 2024-25. It has also instructed private colleges and universities to adhere to the terms and conditions of the UGC/NCTE in the appointment of teachers.

Speaking at a news conference at the Press Club here on Tuesday, ACS general secretary Narang Chatung stated that non-compliance with the notification by the respective colleges and universities would be considered a violation of the Supreme Court's order.

Additionally, anyone found violating the conditions would be dealt with under various sections of the Arunachal Pradesh Colleges and Other Institutions of Higher Education (Establishment and Regulation) Act, 2010.

Chatung mentioned that the ACS has been addressing this issue in the state for a year. Due to the high cost of annual admission fees in colleges and universities, students have faced significant difficulties. The annual fees in most colleges and universities were above Rs. 1 lakh.

"After repeated submissions of representations and engagement with the state government, the matter has finally been addressed after 6 months of hardship," he said, acknowledging the effort of Commissioner of Education Amjad Tak.

He noted that the annual rate was Rs. 70,000 in the notification issued in 2016. However, with ACS intervention, the minimum price has been increased from Rs. 20,000 to Rs. 90,000 in the new notification.

ACS also raised concerns about the issuance of loans to non-APST individuals by the Arunachal Pradesh State Cooperative Apex Bank Limited (APSCABL).

Highlighting the issue, Chatung mentioned that officials had informed ACS that the loans were granted before the bank's crash. However, the bank is now adhering to RBI guidelines and is not providing such loans to non-APST individuals.

He also informed that ACS would soon raise several serious health-related issues in the state after the general elections and the subsequent formation of a new government.
